I discovered my passion for languages on my first day of high school, and by the time I was a senior there were three languages (as I count them) in my schedule: German, Spanish, and JavaScript (in the form of AP Computer Science). Once I got to Boston University, I added Chinese to that list and a new linguistic passion was born. That passion propelled me through two Chinese translation awards in college and then through an MA in Translation and Localization Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey.
At MIIS, I was able to learn from some of the best teachers of Chinese-English translation that there are, and thanks to them and subsequent mentors at the World Intellectual Property Organization, I am now an established translator of patent materials, though with an additional passion for the arts and literature.
In the rest of my life, music, my real first language, remains an important theme. When I’m not translating, you can find me either playing cello, bass guitar, or guitar in a performance somewhere, enjoying the unique connection that is making music with other people.
